If you were to ask me what is the right time to enter into an independent business is, I would tell you that such does not exist. Just as they say about parenthood - you are never ready for this responsibility, and yet, most of the people I am surrounded by are parents themselves or plan to be. Then why should we not apply the same "lunacy" in our business life?
Don't get me wrong, I'm personally in a slightly more favourable situation for such a step forward – without children, loans, parents to take care of or similar circumstances that force people to settle for a safe job with a safe salary in a safe company. But I was lucky enough to meet people who have, despite these "difficult" circumstances, built their business like Daenerys Targaryen built her army.
Personally, I think that security (yes, this is the fourth time I have mentioned it) is our main enemy. Or rather, fears. The proof itself is the reason why I decided to quit my job a year ago and start my own business - simply one fear overcame the other. Sort of security, or the fear of losing it, has become minor compared to the fear of stagnation in private and business life.
During that period, my colleagues, co-workers, friends and family all said the same thing - "Bravo Danchi, you are really brave!" But I have to admit, I was also a bit CRAZY. Until then, I didn't have any ambitions to run an independent business, so I didn't even have a grandiose backup plan that I could rely on. I didn't know if I would be sustainable - could I continue the lifestyle I had practiced so far, or would I have to, like Drzic's character Skup, greedily keep every coin of "my treasury"?
But as you yourself must have said or heard many times - "something inside me just broke", the straw that broke the camel's back, you know what I'm talking about! And it wasn't easy, the fears took their toll again - for 2 weeks I woke up at 4am in the morning, Faithless round the clock... Today it's funny when I think about that period, but in the most banal way, I was Neo who chooses " blue or red pill". Now I can say that it was one of the best decisions I made in my life.
The same can be said about Armand Peugeot, who, according to the book "A Brief History of Humankind" by Y. N. Harari (warning - I will refer to this book many more times), like some madman founded the first limited liability company. I believe that at that time there were people who thought he "lost his marbles" and yet, today Peugeot still exists as a well-known world name.
And then, when courage and craziness do the job, with a cool head, you realise that you have always possessed a whole set of skills, knowledge and abilities that you can rely on and that "push" you forward. So, for example, I recognised my meticulousness and somewhat obsession with structure and order and channeled them into the main services that my trade provides. I believe that the name "Po Špagi" (Croatian idiom - like a clockwork) tells enough...
As a person who is at the very beginning of this entrepreneurial story, I am looking forward to all the learnings, challenges, ups and downs, mistakes and victories... So far, I can say that this change has enabled me to progress in every area of my life - I am more productive, I have determined my priorities, I learn new things and grow as a person. And all thanks to bit of courage and lunacy!
